Neither the monumental success of Procol Harum’s first smash hit ‘A Whiter Shade of Pale’ nor their recently awarded accolade of ‘most played single of the past seventy-five years’ has stopped them from moving forward. The quality of their writing and live performance has remained Procol Harum’s gold standard throughout the years. They have recorded with ‘In Concert with the Danish National Concert Orchestra’ to wide acclaim and will be performing at this year’s RBC Bluesfest with the NAC Orchestra.

Singer/pianist/composer Gary Brooker is most famous as the founding member of Procol Harum, yet music fans have also appreciated his excellent work with such artists as George Harrison, Ringo Starr, Eric Clapton, Bill Wyman, Kate Bush, and Wings, among others. Within Procol Harum’s current line-up lies a purring engine of a rhythm section in the hands of bassist Matt Pegg. Geoff Dunn on drums is ‘the new boy’ in the hot seat– having been the driving force with such luminaries as Jimmy Page, Van Morrison and Manfred Mann. Josh Phillips is in on the Hammond organ —h is career started in 1979 with Pete Townsend. Last but never least is twenty-year veteran Geoff Whitehorn, who has supplied lead guitar by appointment to the British rock aristocracy such Roger Daltrey, among others.

In recent years, Procol have released 10 re-mastered CD albums, and the two-CD anthology ‘Secrets of the Hive’. “We don’t do pop songs as such,” says Brooker. “Procol Harum is a soul- and blues-based band with other influences. ‘A Whiter Shade of Pale’ or many of our other songs wouldn’t have been such big hits unless they’d had soul.” Brooker is still happy performing Procol’s classic hits and crowd-pleasers, yet there is always a mix of new or rare songs on the set-list to titillate the ever-growing legion of fans that follow the band. Procol Harum continues to rock on in all their splendour, a galleon in full sail!
